Is this just another conservative political group? No. We are providing a focal point for progressive evangelicals to key on mission with those who share certain non-negotiables (the five points). It is a way of getting beyond politics by agreeing on key principles and moving forward in power. E.g: If we don't have to argue about sexuality we can move on to other things. Are you a defectors group of people leaving denominations? No. Many of our friends are choosing to stay in their faith families of origin, for good reasons. We are not a denomination or a "denomination replacement." Why do you make #4 a point? The rest sounds so missional. This sounds legalistic.Answer: Every generation has its defining issue. In 1860, you had to say where you stand on slavery. Someday the sexuality issue will go away and there will be another defining issue. Clarity on the defining issue of the day frees a group up to do other things. Un-clarity leads to yet another round of discussion and lack of focus, therefore, on mission. It is ironic but true that clarity on divisive issues leads to less focus on them. Is this a Lutheran thing? That's how it started out. Within two days of opening the site, Lutherans became a minority. But after the ELCA Churchwide Assembly vote in August 2009, Lutherans poured into the Lighthouse Covenant and are again the majority. Lots of Anglicans, Vineyard people, and Foursquare folks are also a part of things. What are you going to DO?We are going to have annual festivals at key shareholder churches with FREE conferences on how to build up your church and move the Kingdom forward. You will only pay for lunch. These will be the springs of revival in your region. The focus will be on small town and neighborhood churches. We ALSO will be focusing on building leadership from the 18-25 year old age group. Our goal is for this age group, in the Lord's timing, to lead the movement. What is your plan as an organization? The Lord is leading us, during this season, to focus on:
Is this just for pastors and leaders? This group does not see any clergy/laity divide. We are all Kingdom partners in mission. Who started this up?In June of 2009, the following pastors founded the Lighthouse Covenant: Bill Bohline
